It’s a pretty diverse bunch that includes people from just about every section of the Aussie motorcycle community that lob up to Thunderwest at FSB Pearlbrook each year to rub shoulders and do what bikers do best, that of course being, having a bloody good time in the company of like minded people. Even with predicted temperatures in the mid forties close to a thousand riders chose to, put on a shitload of sunscreen, stop at as many pubs as possible on the way, and in general, just simply ignore the weather forecast, needless to say it was all well worth the effort of getting there, because, its pretty well known that the Vets always put on a bloody good show and this year was no exception to the rule.

Obviously, it’s essential to ensure that the bodies intake of fluids is kept at a reasonable level in order to avoid dehydration when the temperature gets a bit high, and I have to say, that, to their credit most people were making the utmost effort to do just that, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the aluminum smelter had to roster an extra shift in order to keep up with the rate that the empty cans were filling the rubbish bins up, it wasn’t long before there was a noticeable foot track developing between the drinks ticket counter and the bar, and had it not been for the temperature dropping as night fell, it could well have developed into a considerable depression, doubtless creating a bit of a hazard in the dark for anyone with a wobbly boot.

The creek running through the property and the shower hose at the front gate proved a blessing for a large number of people as they sought respite from the worst of the heat during the breaks between the various events that were held throughout the afternoon, although, to be honest, I wouldn’t fancy owning a property downstream as the salt content of the creek must have hit an all time high as a direct result of a couple of hundred sweaty bikers soaking in it.

All up, even allowing for the fact that it was a bit hot during the day, it was another top event hosted by the Vets with plenty to see and do, and I reckon that next year, no matter what the forecast says, you would be a mug if you didn’t turn up for it.
