| Supporting “Jess’s Journey” the second running of this fund raiser to send Jess over to Germany for MS treatment proved to be a very well organised Poker Run, taking in a good cross section of the Upper Hunter’s back roads and a selection of “bikers are welcome” pubs meant that everyone got a bit of favourite riding in somewhere along the route plus friendly service at the stops. Kicking off at Muswellbrook a quick run down the highway to the first stop at Singleton gave the riders a chance to get into the swing of things prior to heading out along the Golden Highway to Denman, it was on this leg the run caught up with a wide load that would have left the occupants of all the oncoming tin-tops pulled over on the side of the road somewhat bemused, it’s not very often you see a police escort in front and then a huge biker escort following up at the rear of wide loads. Needless to say, when the run was finally flagged around it was open road all the way ahead due to the police having pulled all the traffic over, that no doubt confused quite a few more motorists as it would have appeared, that, until the wide load finally arrived, that we were the cause of them sitting on the side of the road, this was all repeated again on the leg to Merriwa when we caught up to the load again. After a free feed at Merriwa it was off to Scone for a short stop and then back to the Prince of Wales hotel in Muswellbrook for the best hands presentations, a fund raising auction with some very classy items going under the hammer and the evenings entertainment provided by a trio of musicians outside the pub and “ End of Days” knocking out the music inside. Worth mentioning is an added bonus on this run in the form of a coach that follows the route and is ideally suited for non riders and kids who want to be a part of the day, so, when you chuck quite a few substantial give-away prizes enroute, the raffles, plus great weather into the equation, although there were a lot of happy prize winners there were certainly no losers on the day. |
