I’m not sure who coined the phrase “Adversity brings out the best in people” but, if they meant it to include rain as being adverse, then they certainly got it right with the number of waterlogged riders that rode into Pearlbrook for Thunderwest. It had been raining fairly heavily across most of the state for a day or so but that had not deterred a substantial number of riders from attending, they had simply knuckled down to the task at hand and kept riding.

The Show and Shine had a diverse selection on display and included a number of Postie bikes that had been, shall we say, “Tastefully modified”, they included one which sported the innovative use of a helmet as a headlight nacelle and others fitted with ape hangers, mind you, these were not just bitza’s thrown together for display on the day for a bit of a laugh, because, as it turned out, they had all been ridden down from Queensland by a bunch of pretty dedicated bikers.

As usual, the standard of bikes on display was top notch and the winners in the various classes collected some well deserved trophies for their efforts. Other events on the day included the Burn Out and Wet T Shirt competitions, plus a huge line up of well inked contestants for the Tattoo Show, the prizes in the raffle were not to be sneezed at and of course later on in the evening the ladies took to the stage to provide some very interesting interludes between the bands sessions.

Providing the music this year were the V-Dubs, Baxter Bells, End of Days, Retro Rockets plus Rose Tattoo with their ubiquitous front-man Angry Anderson giving a no holds barred show for the crowd. When you consider, that, for a paltry $20.00 admission you get all of the above and a bloody good crowd to enjoy it all with, well, I reckon you would have to be really trying hard not to get damn good value for money and have a bloody good time courtesy of the VVMC NSW Chapter at Thunderwest, so no matter what the weather is doing next year, just saddle up and head for Pearlbrook, hey, life’s to short to be sitting at home when there’s this sort of thing is out there for the offering.

Thanks VVMC NSW for yet another first class effort, and thanks to all the folk who attended despite the weather. See you there for the next one.
