First Anniversary

Those of us with enough grey in the beard will remember when there seemed to be a motorcycle club of some description in just about every locality in Australia, sadly though, the vast majority of the clubs in the more remote areas slowly met their demise and faded into Aussie biker history thereby leaving the remaining clubs in the capital cities and scattered along the coastal areas. Given the long distances to get anywhere in this big brown land of ours, over the years, it eventually occurred that anyone living out in the bush who had an inclination to be a part of the MC lifestyle had to move to the coastal areas in order to pursue it any further. Fortunately, after a somewhat lengthy hiatus, it’s apparent that some of the major clubs are now in a position to reverse the trend and are starting chapters in the more remote areas, the Comanchero MC are just such an example of this, and, on the 2008 Australia Day long weekend at their clubhouse in Binnaway NSW the Comanchero MC. North West Chapter celebrated their first anniversary.

With the majority of its members drawn from the town and its surrounding areas, they no doubt have a closer relationship with the whole of their local populace than perhaps the big city chapters do, in part, by virtue of past or current involvement in local business, and things like the volunteer bush fire brigades, and also the fact that they probably grew up with a lot of the locals, so, hopefully the Binnaway townsfolk’s knowledge of just who these blokes on motorcycles really are, is going to be a good start in dispelling some of the current plethora of media and police misrepresentation of MC’s. Its my belief that its about time we got back to forming an opinion for ourselves of the person inside the clothes he wears and not what some government or media lackey says that we should think of them, and judging from the warm welcome that the members gave everyone at their open day, the North West Chapter is well on their way to doing just that.

Congratulations to the Comanchero MC. North West Chapter on their first anniversary and I hope you celebrate many more in the future.
