“Biker Super Heroes spotted at Newcastle” hot off the presses, and remember you read it here first folks, comes the announcement that Australia has joined the ranks of countries with their very own home grown Super Heroes. In what could only be described as a first for bikers and this big brown land downunder, a number of Super Heroes attended the annual “Just Girls” Newcastle Pink Ribbon Ride.

Having made a spectacular debut as they entered the McDonalds car-park at Hexham, this erstwhile mild mannered group, no doubt, having availed themselves of the facilities of a convenient phone box just around the corner, were, in line with their overseas counterparts, the likes of Superman and Robin of Batman fame, easy to identify from the ordinary bikers there that day, in main, by the obligatory Hero dress code of wearing of their underwear on the outside of their clothes. It was however also obvious, that, unfortunately these pioneers of Aussie super-heroism are a bit ahead of their time, because with no outfitters in Australia catering for Super Heroes they were forced to make do with borrowed pink apparel from their wives, their choice, although appropriate for the day, would, no doubt, when worn in other public places, cause permanent mental damage to children and scare small dogs, plus, the combination of grey hair and pink dye whilst riding a motorcycle, would have claims of having seen a low flying 80 kilo Galah filling mental asylums with hundreds of birdwatchers.

With the ride departing from Hexham to wend its way to the final stop at Denman, there’s no doubt that a number of marriages are also on the rocks by now, with numerous versions of little Tarquin having piped up from the back seat of the family Volvo as the bikes went past, ”Hey mum, that’s looks just like daddy’s girlfriend” plus the number of rear end accidents, caused by cross-dressers ogling the bit of rough trade, would have probably increased dramatically. Notwithstanding this slight unforseen downside to their debut appearance, these Super Heroes are to be congratulated for having, for want of a better phrase, the balls to dress up that way in order to promote Pink Ribbon’s awareness of Breast Cancer.

Having performed above and beyond the call of duty in ensuring the ride made it safely to Denman, the Super Heroes departed just as suddenly as they had arrived, then moments later, in true comic book style, having used the phone boxes just up the street, rejoined the throng at the pub with no-one being any the wiser as to who they really were.

Congratulations to Lyn, all the ladies from Just Girls and the riders who joined them on the Pink Ribbon Ride, I can assure you all that you were certainly noticed on the day, and really drew attention to a worthy cause.
