VVMC NSW Chapter “Thunderwest” 2008

Judging from the constant flow of bikes into the site and the speed at which the prime camping spots were being covered with a sea of tents and tarpaulins, I don’t think it would be far wrong to say that this years Thunderwest had the biggest attendance to date.

New to the site this year was the taping off of walkways lit with glow-sticks, they allowed for easy walking access down into the main camping area, and there’s no doubt it proved a blessing for the more directionally challenged rally goers as their “where the fuck is my tent” senses deteriorated in direct proportion to the intake of liquid refreshments and the degree of darkness, no doubt, quite a few people slept more secure in the knowledge that they were not going to have a rude awakening as some lost soul with a wobbly boot tripped over their tents pegs at some ungodly hour of the night and fell on top of them.

The high standards we have come to expect of the Vets events was evident again this year, with a heap of classy looking trophies up for grabs in the show and shine, this years entries would have had the judges working overtime as there were quite a few bikes that at first appeared average, but, on closer inspection revealed a lot of hard work had gone into the smaller, sometimes overlooked details. The musical entertainment was varied enough to suit even the most discerning ear and combined with the burnouts, wet T-shirt comp and the exotic dancers later on in the night, meant there was something for everyone to see or do, and, if you wanted to slip away for a bit of a quiet time, there was the creek with its shade trees to sit beside, or, if you felt so inclined, to just stroll right into the water and soak the body whilst soaking in the atmosphere at the same time.

If you haven’t been to this event before, I would suggest you mark it on your calendar for next year and see for yourself why so many people are smiling in the photographs, and of course, if you were there this year, well, there’s no need to preach to the converted, and I will see you there for the next one.

Apologies to all the trophy winners for the lack of photo's...my camera was having a senior moment.

In closing, many thanks to the Vets for allowing me a fair bit of leeway in getting the likes of the on-stage photos and some of the others, and congratulations on another top class weekend.
